Cenfri has undertaken a stock-taking study of South African micro-insurance on behalf of the FinMark Trust.
The proposal for a South African micro-insurance regulatory framework has been on the table since 2008, when National Treasury released a Discussion Paper on the Future of Micro-insurance Regulation. Five years later, the question arises: are the proposed elements of the regulatory framework still relevant given changes in the market and regulatory environment?
The study addresses this question by reviewing changes in the demand and supply of micro-insurance, as well as regulatory landscape, over this period. It serves both as an overview of SA micro-insurance for the past five years, as well as an entry point to further analysis.
The study can also be found on the FinMark and the Cenfri websites.
